The Peoples Democratic Party is on life support, holding only Bauchi and Oyo states, down significantly from its pre-2023 strength. Key figures like Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) have all abandoned the party for the APC, signaling an unprecedented collapse.
Strong governance is evident across key states, with Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru (Ebonyi, APC) scoring 92 and Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu (Lagos, APC) at 90. Charles Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra, APGA) also shines at 90, demonstrating a consistent performance from incumbent governors. These scores cement their parties' influence.
Despite the overwhelming dominance of 31 APC governors, recent analyses warn that President Tinubu's path to 2027 is far from guaranteed. "No Cakewalk For Aso Rock In 2027" explicitly suggests that significant challenges remain for the incumbent, indicating potential hurdles despite the party's strength.
The All Progressives Congress now commands 31 out of 37 governorships, solidified by 10 defections since 2023, including recent moves from Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano). This massive shift makes 2027 a near certainty for Aso Rock, leaving rivals in the dust.
