APGA Sets N75 Million Price Tag for 2027 Presidential Aspirants, Releases Primary Schedule
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) makes its 2027 election intentions clear, rolling out a rigorous primary timetable. Presidential hopefuls now face a steep N75 million entry fee, signalling a high-stakes contest for the party's top ticket. This move aligns with INEC's framework, setting the stage for a transparent internal process.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is serious about 2027, setting a formidable N75 million price tag for its presidential nomination forms. This comes as the party rolls out its comprehensive timetable for primary elections, a crucial step in its quest for national relevance. Dr. Ejimofor Opara, National Publicity Secretary for APGA, confirmed the schedule from Awka on Monday, emphasising adherence to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines and the Electoral Act, 2026.
Aspirants eyeing APGA tickets kick off their journey on April 20, with the sale and submission of expression of interest forms running until May 8. The screening process follows swiftly: National Assembly hopefuls face the panel on May 11, State Houses of Assembly aspirants on May 12, and governorship contenders on May 13.
Nomination forms become available from May 14 to May 21. The party then conducts its primary elections on May 23, utilising the Option A4 voting system across all wards. Any appeals stemming from these primaries will be addressed by May 28, ensuring a clear path forward before the general elections.
The Cost of Ambition: APGA's High Stakes
The financial commitment is substantial across the board. The Expression of Interest form for the presidency costs N25 million, while Senate aspirants pay N6 million, House of Representatives hopefuls N4 million, governorship contenders N10 million, and State Assembly aspirants N2 million. Nomination forms are even steeper: N50 million for the presidency, N15 million for Senate, N12 million for House of Representatives, N25 million for governorship, and N6 million for State Assembly.
This puts the combined cost for a presidential ticket at a hefty N75 million. Dr. Ejimofor Opara stresses that aspirants must first acquire and submit their Expression of Interest forms, then successfully clear the screening process, before they can even obtain the nomination forms. This two-tier system ensures serious contenders only.
The party's choice of the Option A4 voting system aims squarely at transparency, a direct move to curb internal electoral malpractice. This decision, according to Opara, underscores APGA's commitment to a credible internal process and marks a significant stride in its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
